Telex: The Cnil fines Apple 8 M€, Gigabyte is split in two, 1st association in a Microsoft subsidiary, the Qi 2 standard for wireless charging is coming

Cnil sanctions Apple. The French regulator fined the Cupertino company 8 million euros for failing to collect consent before depositing and/or writing identifiers used for advertising purposes on iPhone owners. The problem was with iOS version 14.6.

– Gigabytes are divided into two. The Taiwanese company announced the separation of its business activity (server and server motherboards), which will become an independent entity, but still 100% owned by Gigabyte. This structure is called Giga Computing Technology, but will continue to rely on the Gigabyte brand to “drive growth and innovation in servers”. The second unit consists of the company’s core business, namely motherboards for the general public.

The ZeniMax group, former parent company of Bethesda and current subsidiary of Microsoft, has just registered establishment of its trade union, which already has 300 employees. ZeniMax praised the attitude of the Redmond company, which did not try to curb the unionization of employees, as happened at the beginning of the year at Blizzard. The next step is now contract negotiations for newly appointed employees.

– Qi 2 wireless charging standard is coming. Created by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) in 2008, the Qi standard is the global standard for wireless charging for smartphones. On the occasion of CES 2023, WPC announced a second generation for its standard: Qi 2. Wireless charging has improved thanks in part to Apple since the company shared its MagSafe technology. With Qi 2, therefore, a “Magnetic Power Profile” is offered with the same system of magnets as that found on the iPhone – to improve wireless charging. Qi 2 should arrive before the end of 2023.
